Hotel in York: A Guide to the Historic City
York is a beautiful city with so much history. There is so much to see and do and the city is so welcoming and warm, it’s the perfect place for a city break.
It’s a big city, but not so big that you feel dwarfed in its size. All the streets and buildings and sights are quaint and quintessentially English, it’s no wonder it’s a real draw for international tourists from all over the world.
Accommodation in York is varied and plentiful. I stayed at a hotel in York and it had amazing facilities, with a luxury edge. Having said that, though, my search was long and I came across nearly too much choice for where to stay!
One of the holiday accommodation types that I came across a lot was B&B in York and guest houses in York. I think these are great options for families, especially guest houses and self-catering as it offers a sort of home away from home for people who need a bit more stability in their holiday plans.
Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of hotels in York city centre and, in the end, that is where I stayed. It was so close to all the amazing things to do. I could roll right out of bed and straight onto the streets!
If you’re travelling to York, you should definitely walk along the city walls. They encircle what was the original, medieval town and provide a snapshot into the lives of people in a time gone by. They’re just over three kilometres so can be easily walked in around 30 minutes.
You can also take a look at the shopping options in York too. There’s the biggest variety of shops I’ve ever seen – designer, independent, antiques, jewellery… the list is endless. What more could you want from a York city break? The cobbled streets make it seem like you’ve stepped back in time to look at the rows upon rows of great shops.
There’s a thrilling nightlife too, with loads of bars, clubs and pubs in York that suit every taste. Depending on what vibe you want, you can have a chilled pint in the pub or go wild until 6 am. It’s totally up to you.
Whatever you end up doing, it’s really important to make sure your accommodation matches your style of holiday. A holiday to York can be anything you want it to be, whether you want something self-catering or ultimate luxury, there will definitely be something for you in York on your city break.
